Action instituted pursuant to section 102.23, Stats., by the plaintiff village of Butler and its insurance carrier to review
an order of the Industrial Commission awarding workmen's compensation benefits to the defendant Emma Bauer for the death of
her husband, Le Roy Bauer, while in the employ of the plaintiff village. Le Roy Bauer was hired by the defendant village of Butler on June 5, 1951, as village marshal and he was specifically instructed
that his duties were limited to the village limits and he was forbidden to go outside of the village unless in hot pursuit
of an offender. The village provided him with a fully equipped squad car.
